Friends of WYO
Westmorland Youth Orchestra has been going strong for 60 years and is now the only youth orchestra of its type in Cumbria. Please become a ‘Friend of WYO’ and support the continuation of youth music in the area.
Our WYO ‘Friends’ are important to us, supporting the orchestra in many different ways: by swelling our audiences at concerts, financial assistance and practical help in many forms.
There are at least three public concerts per year in a range of prestigious venues and Friends receive advance notification of these, plus a copy of the WYO ‘Newsletter’.
DID YOU KNOW THAT:
Westmorland Youth Orchestra gives the opportunity to players in the Westmorland area to experience and excel at orchestral playing, offering a formalised and structured orchestral training to some of the area’s most talented young musicians.
The musical repertoire is wide ranging, varying from technically challenging classical pieces, some specially written for WYO, to lighter orchestral music.
Players come from a wide area – from Barrow to Appleby, from Ambleside to Lancaster.
WYO has played in Ulverston, Troutbeck Bridge, Kendal , Sedbergh, Appleby, Whitehaven, Manchester (RNCM). Players help to fundraise for the orchestra.
WYO supports local young people’s music groups by inviting them to perform welcoming music at WYO concerts.
WYO players have gone on to play in orchestras country-wide.
HOW ‘FRIENDS’ OF WYO CAN HELP
Come to the concerts and help to swell the audiences.
Financial assistance, however small, is of great help, and even more so if ‘Gift Aided’. There is no minimum amount. An annual donation by Standing Order helps us to plan future activities. See below for Contribution and Gift Aid forms.
Practical help: either as a committee member, or as an occasional helper. Please contact us if you feel you might be able to help in this way.
