The Cumbrian Composition Competition 2020

Following on from the success from two years ago, the Westmorland Youth Orchestra has now opened its door for new submissions. The competition is open to any student under the age of 19 living or studying in Cumbria. The two winners can enjoy to hear their music performed by the WYO in the St Thomas' Church in Kendal on the 20th June at 7pm. The winners will also receive a small prize and a recording of their piece.

One of the reasons for this competition is to enable the public to hear some of the lovely GCSE and A-Level compositions that each year are produced around the county. It is also obviously a way for the students to hear their own music performed by talented young musicians.

Any pieces in any style are welcome. However, the setting needs to include instruments that are available to the orchestra - Piccolo, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bass-Clarinet, Bassoon, Double-Bassoon, French Horn, Trumpet, Cornet, Trombone, Drums, Percussion, Piano, Electric Guitar, Bass-Guitar, Solo Singers, Small Choirs, Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass.

Larger ensembles will be viewed more favourably.

Applying is very, very easy:

Send an email of the composition on any format to our Musical Director Fredrik Holm:
