Claire Reed

Claire joined Westmorland Youth Orchestra in November 1995. Within a couple of years she became leader of the cello section and remained leader until leaving the orchestra in the summer of 2001. During her time with Westmorland Youth Orchestra Claire feels that her orchestral playing greatly improved, she attributes this to the excellent coaching of Noel and the rest of the coaching team.

Claire’s final concert in 2001 also saw the orchestra perform music from The Last Night of the Proms and the introduction of the Probus Cup, supported by Kendal Rotary. Claire was the first member of the orchestra to be awarded the cup.

Claire also played with Cumbria Youth Orchestra, attending their training courses in Heversham and Penrith.

After leaving the Orchestra and completing her A-levels Claire went on to study Economics at The University of Leicester, where she played in the University Orchestra and sat on the Orchestral Committee for 2 years. Claire now lives in Birmingham, where she is studying to become a primary school teacher. She still supports the University of Leicester Orchestra as an alumni player. She now plays for the Central England Ensemble ( and has just returned from a 7 day tour of Paris.
